Travel with University-Owned Devices, Equipment or Information

Researchers should be aware that traveling internationally with university-issued laptop computers, web-enabled cell phones, high-tech equipment or proprietary, sensitive or unpublished information may constitute an “export” and may require a license. The best practice is to travel only with information that is publicly available, in the public domain, is educational information or qualifies for the fundamental research exclusion. University Information Services can assist travelers in protecting against threats to their data while traveling internationally, including through the use of additional encryption, loaner devices or other mechanisms.
